It’s a coming!

August 17, 2010

So i’ve been getting some kit together recently (Alot were birthday gifts from generous parents and friends), making the trip feel even more real! Sash and I have had quite a few debates about gear – we’re not loaded so we can’t get all the best gear but we’re being selective about where to buy the quality stuff – decent tent and sleeping bag at a minimum.

Thinking about the trip at work today i drifted on to  how it compares to Shackleton (no not the superb producer) and Scott’s expeditions to Antarctica.  As much as this trip is shit scary we’re treading a well worn path, of course it’s all new for us but we’re not stepping into uncharted territories.  Those expeditions into the unknown we’re driven by a similar desire to explore as ours, but i think that’s as far as the comparison goes.  Done with very basis equipment (they didnt have MSR in those days!) they were heroic endeavors and certainlyare certainly bringing this trip into perspective.
