Sash

My name is Sash Reading, and I am currently in training to be an architect. I currently work here. I have an online portfolio of work here, containing stuff from my time studying at Nottingham and some private work.

Architecture is a large part of my life, and as I carry on my pursuit to full qualification (another 4 years) it will no doubt try to consume me entirely. This is as good a justification as any as to why I want to do this trip, especially now, as I may not get another chance in the future (seeing as I will be in about 30 grand of debt by the time I graduate!)

Being a future architect there is a huge responsibility to work with a great connection and understanding of the world. There is no space for ignorant architects. The romantic notion of slow travel will hopefully enable me to gain a valuable insight into the structures of society that make up the rich diversity of our planet, informing and educating me towards my future endeabours in architecture. I am planning to document the trip through photographs and journal entries to this site that will allow me to keep record of what I experience, calling on those experiences to influence and possibly shape the work I come to do in the future.

I have been cycling since I was a kid, however it stepped up a gear about 18 months ago when I bought a 20 year old tennis ball yellow Trek 1200 road bike off Ebay. I was half expecting a wreck but it turned out to be unridden with all the original parts. It is so gorgeous (although most claim otherwise) and Ive since ridden it to wreck on the London roads. I then moved to Amsterdam to complete an internship and as natural as breathing I was cycling everywhere (although I managed to get through 7 bikes in 6 months, that doesnt bode well!)

Among cycling and architecture I also have a passion for sport kites and drumming. I am a member of the Scratch Bunnies sport kite team, flying number 5. We are current reigning world champions!!!

=) x
